In 2017, Shiona Campbell, a seasoned professional with over 15 years of experience working in local councils across Scotland and England, founded BDS -Business Development Support Limited. She'd previously made a transition from the public sector to the third sector, where she served in significant roles within Third Sector Interface and two of Scotland's largest Social Care Charities.
Shiona's journey led her to a profound belief: publicly funded organisations should provide us with high quality services. To do this, they should buy high-quality goods and services. She noticed a common challenge among business owners – they often overlook the potential of selling to public sector organisations because they believe:
- They are too small to sell to the public sector
- The public sector won’t buy what they sell
- The process is too complicated
- Only big companies can win these bids.
Shiona believes that these are myths. BDS was born out of Shiona’s commitment to address these concerns head-on and support owner-led businesses to grow by selling to the public sector.
